I am very out with the current laws on purchasing Claritin-D.
The reason I say this is because of my experience at Wal-mart Pharmacy yesterday. I assume this could have happened to me at any pharmacy I went to. I suffer allergies, and generally I take the occasional allergy tablet, if the need arises. I have food allergies and pet, and smoke allergies. I can’t eat certain foods and I don’t like to smell pets particularly cats. I have terrible allergy attacks to them, they are cute lil fuzzy things that don’t like my nose. I am traveling and one never knows if pets have been in hotel rooms, even when they say no pets allowed.
Now back to my story, a little background is sufficient. My husband went to buy two 10 tablet boxes of Claritin D and he was told he could only buy one ten tablet box. He had wanted one for him and one for me for our vacation. Thanks goodness I was there because I had to buy my own box. Wow what a mission it was too, never in my life did I imagine. I had to give the cashier my drivers license, my phone number and had to sign a statement declaring that I my information was not false and that I didn’t intend fraud etc etc. I read it all when I signed it just to make sure what I was signing. Then to top it off I thought I was paying for the one box of Claritin- D but no. I had to swipe my card again and sign to pay it. This took quite a while it wasn’t just walk in buy your medicine and leave.
I am curious now and want to know why this is done. I thought if medicine that they needed to track was suppose to be purchased by prescription. I am going to do a search online today to read up on why this happens.
Hence my first statement I am no up to date with current laws. I don’t purchase these often enough, thank goodness. I purchase it every once in a blue moon.
Well that is my post, had to vent because it did aggravate me quite a bit. If I had not needed the tablets I probably would have just left, but anyhow. 🙂 Click below for information I found in my search.
I am sure glad I don’t need to purchase this medication on a regular basis. I need to research it carefully because my husband has allergies and he takes medication regularly. He used to take prescription but the insurance co-pay went up and he is buying over the counter medications. He is thinking it might be more cost effective. Now I am not sure if its what he should do.
Geez I was really clueless about the extend of this law.
Here is another link from New Mexico the state I lived before OK

I must admit I the thought of doing anything other than taking a pill for what is meant has never crossed my mind. It amazes me how resourceful some people can be. Imagine if all this brain power was put to good use. I can only imagine.

Around here most cold and allergy pills are locked up under the counter, and you have to ask for them because they contain something that is used in making meth (we live in a very hugh drug traffic area almost dead center inbetween 4 major cities). They are limited here too. We don’t use them, but hubby says he has heard people say they have to go through a process like what you described in order to buy a package.

Well now I know the reason behind the madness. I am done with my research on this law.
