On February 4 I signed up for Adopt A US Soldier. I was talking to my husband about my 52 letters 52 weeks and he suggested I look up how to help a soldier by writing to them or care packages. Something like this had been on my mind since watching Oprah’s show about soldiers and their lives. I thought to myself ” I don’t know a soldier or a family personally. I might indirectly through someone at church but not personally. I thought about it and thought and finally found this great forum Adopt A US Soldier.
At first I got one soldier, she is a female but I didn’t and still don’t know much about her. I have consistently written her e-mails and just his week sent her a letter. I do pray it makes it to her and that in a small way brings a smile to her face.
Then I got an email letting me know that if I was up to it I could adopt a second soldier. So I thought about it and requested a second soldier. This time got a male soldier who I know a few things about from his comments. Not much but a bit more than the first female soldier. I sent him a letter this week as too.
Here just the other day I got another email letting me know that a bunch of soldiers had just signed up for support and if I was able to I could adopt a 3rd soldier. I thought about this one for a little bit as well and sent the reply. I was up to supporting a 3rd soldier.
This third soldier is a female and I know from her info she like coffee and a few other odds and ends. I will be writing her a letter this week, and I am really looking forward to sitting down with pen and paper in hand.
These letter I suppose I could be counting toward my 52 letter 52 weeks, but I am not. I am wanting to send these now not wait for the weekly writing.
As I get to know these deployed soldiers I will also be sending out care packages, as I feel so lucky to have them serve our country.
